A Quiet Weekend on Mallorca — Where Time Slows Down

What could be better than spending a weekend on Mallorca?
It’s an island where time seems to pause.
Where mornings start with the smell of fresh coffee and the sea right in front of you,
days drift by as you look for hidden coves with crystal-clear water,
and evenings end with sunsets you can’t quite look away from.

Mallorca isn’t just beaches and sun — it’s a state of mind.
And this is my story about where to find its quietest corners —
and why I already know I’ll come back again and again.

My Gallery

How It Started — A Ticket and an Open Road

A month before my trip, I found a good flight on Kiwi.com — Ryanair, nothing fancy, but quick and simple, just the way I needed it.
When I knew I’d be landing on an island like Mallorca, I also decided I wanted full freedom — no bus schedules, no waiting around.
So I booked a small rental car through Localrent.com — easy, clear, and from a local company that felt just right for this kind of road adventure.

I decided that if I was going to Mallorca, I wanted the freedom to go wherever the road called me — no bus schedules, no waiting around.

It turned out to be the best choice.
There are so many places on this island that you’d never reach without your own wheels.
When I landed, grabbed the keys, and stepped out of the parking lot,
I felt it right away — that tiny rush of freedom,
the open road ahead, no plan but my own,
just me and the map in my mind that hadn’t been drawn yet.

First Stop — A Grocery Store & a Roadside Picnic

My first destination wasn’t even my hotel.
It was Mercadona — a classic Spanish supermarket.
I filled my basket with water, fresh fruit, bread, jamón, and cheese — everything I needed for a simple sandwich to eat under the sun.

Driving down the road with my picnic on the passenger seat,
I caught myself smiling: Here it is. My start. No rush. No schedule. Just Mallorca.

Tips

Grab fresh local snacks for the road — you’ll save time and taste the island at the same time. And pack a bag you don’t mind getting sandy.

A Beach by Instinct — Playa de Illetes

The first beach I found was never on my list.
I was driving near the airport, saw a little sign,
and turned off the main road just because my gut told me to.

Playa de Illetes greeted me with a sunrise that felt unreal.
The air was fresh and almost sweet,
everything around me still waking up.
A few girls sat on the sand, listening to a meditation, quietly practicing yoga.
I just stood there for a moment — breathing, watching —
and felt something inside me slow down.

Tips

Trust detours. Some of the best places you’ll find in Mallorca aren’t planned — they’re hidden in left turns and quiet signs.

The Famous One — Es Trenc

Later that day, I headed across the island to Es Trenc —
the clear turquoise beach everyone talks about.
Yes, the water is as clear as they say — and yes, there were more people than I wanted.
The only place on my whole trip where I had to pay for parking — €8 for the day.
I stayed for about four hours: swimming, sunbathing, doing absolutely nothing.
And honestly? That was enough.

Tips

Es Trenc is lovely — but go early or near sunset to skip the crowds. And bring cash for parking!

The Road North — Where Mountains Meet the Sea

The next day, I went north and west —
where Mallorca hides its wild side: winding roads, mountain switchbacks,
and views so beautiful you want to pull over every five minutes.

I lost count of how many times I stopped just to take it all in —
wishing I had an old film camera to capture every bend, every turn, every breath of sea air.

Tips

If you rent a car, save one day for the mountain roads. Roll down your windows, drive slow, and stop whenever your heart tells you to.

Tuent Beach — A Secret at Sunset

One of those winding roads led me to Tuent Beach.
The road there is long and, at times, feels a little dangerous — steep curves, tight corners, cliffs that drop away.
But trust me: it’s worth every careful turn.

I arrived just as the sun began its slow goodbye.
There were barely any people left — the water had turned cool, perfect after the warm drive.
A few yachts floated near the shore.
I stood there and thought: I want to hold this moment forever.
On film. In my mind. In my heart.

Tips

Bring a warm layer and something to sit on. Sunset by the sea is best when you’re not in a rush to leave.

What Mallorca Taught Me

This trip reminded me of something simple I forget too easily:
Sometimes you have to stop.
Not forever — just long enough to feel the sun on your shoulders,
to watch the horizon swallow the sun,
to listen to your own breath and believe that this — this tiny piece of life — is enough.

Mallorca isn’t just beautiful places.
It’s that feeling of freedom you taste when you turn off the main road
and just follow whatever calls your name.

I know I’ll come back here.
Again and again.

Thank you for coming with me on this little island escape.
There are so many more stories waiting for us ahead.

✨ See you on the next road.
— With love, from Mallorca

🛫 I found my flight on Kiwi.com — simple, flexible, exactly what I needed. For the car, I used Localrent.com and loved having a local rental with no fuss. If you want to roam where buses can’t reach, do it this way — freedom feels better behind the wheel.
